As part of its ongoing efforts to protect women and children, Jordanian Al Awn Society for Sustainable Community Development launched “Dar Al Awn for Child and Family Care”, a key initiative under the project “Reducing Gender-Based Violence.”
The center was established in April 2019 following the signing of a memorandum of understanding and close coordination with the Sharia Court of Bani Kenanah District, with support from the Princess Taghreed Foundation. Prior to launching the center, the association’s premises were officially inspected and approved to ensure readiness to receive and support cases in a safe and dignified environment.
Dar Al Awn provides a child-friendly and family-oriented space designed to support children and families affected by gender-based violence. The center includes dedicated indoor halls for children, safe outdoor play areas, and recreational spaces equipped with age-appropriate toys to create a supportive and reassuring atmosphere.
Capacity building is a central component of the program. Volunteers and staff members from Al Awn Society underwent intensive specialized training in cooperation with the Jordanian Women’s Union, focusing on professional, ethical, and sensitive approaches to handling cases involving children and families.
The training was led by Dr. Makram Ghaleb Odeh, Executive Director of the Jordanian Women’s Union, with contributions from lawyer Karem Obaidat, Ms. Sawsan Bawaneh, and members of Al Awn Society’s administrative and professional team, including Tharwat Al-Rousan, Rawan Abdel Rahim, Areen Daqamseh, and Hala Al-Rousan.
Through effective coordination between Al Awn Association and the Sharia Court in Bani Kenanah, the center has helped reduce the burden on families by providing services locally and minimizing the need to travel to Irbid for child visitation procedures.
Dar Al Awn for Child and Family Care stands as a powerful example of Al Awn Association’s commitment to protecting children, supporting families, and promoting safety, dignity, and justice within the community.
